As a part of Celebrate Colorado weekend, the Colorado State Fair and Colorado Lottery partnered with The Food Truck Union for a food truck competition at Mineral Palace Park in Pueblo this past Friday. To kick off this year’s Governor’s Plate competition, community members had the opportunity to vote for their favorite offering from several local food trucks.
The Colorado Department of Agriculture is accepting listings for the 2022 Colorado Hay Directory. The annual publication connects hay producers with buyers.
“The Hay Directory is a great way for livestock owners across the state and beyond to easily find the feed they need,” said Danielle Trotta, senior marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. “We know how busy our livestock producers are, and so by publishing our annual Hay Directory we can take some of the legwork out for them.”
The outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) across the United States and in Colorado continues to grow and expand. To provide a coordinated state response and reduce the spread of HPAI, Governor Polis issued a verbal state of emergency on April 29, 2022 at 6:41 p.m. and established a Unified Command Group (UCG) to facilitate the State response.
The Colorado State Veterinarian's Office was notified on April 23 about the disease outbreak that has resulted in the death of 85 horses at the Cañon City Wild Horse and Burro Facility. The Bureau of Land Management and the US Department of Agriculture are actively investigating the incident and monitoring the wellbeing of the animals at the facility. CDA is working with the two agencies to support their response to this incident.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) has confirmed the detection of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus in a commercial poultry operation in Montrose County.
Avian influenza does not present a food safety risk; poultry and eggs are safe to eat when handled and cooked properly. No human cases of avian influenza viruses have been detected in the United States.
The Colorado Department of Agriculture is seeking nominations for a Hemp Advisory Committee (HAC) member representing Commercial Farmers. The committee provides advice to the Commissioner by reviewing proposed rules and recommending new rules or changes to existing rules, including rules that establish CDA’s inspection program to determine THC concentration.
