Public Invited to Provide Input on the Colorado State Hemp Plan

In keeping with the state of Colorado’s efforts to develop a robust hemp industry since the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) launched a hemp pilot program in 2014, stakeholder feedback is now being sought for the continued development of Colorado’s State Hemp Plan.

Governor Polis Celebrates Release of CHAMP Report

Colorado Governor Jared Polis, in partnership with Colorado State University, Colorado Department of Agriculture, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Colorado Division of Regulatory Agencies, and Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, is pleased to announce today’s release of the Colorado Hemp Advancement and Management Plan (CHAMP) report.

Planning for Colorado Hemp Center of Excellence Underway

The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) has awarded the contract for development of a strategic plan for a state Hemp Center of Excellence to MPG Consulting. The selection was based on the recommendation of an independent review committee, which included a member of the Colorado Agriculture Commission, a member of the Hemp Advisory Committee, and other leaders and experts in Colorado agriculture and purchasing. The strategic plan will be completed by July 2021.

Broomfield, Colo. - The recent passage of a Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government through December 11th contained a provision to extend the industrial hemp pilot program authorized in the 2014 Farm Bill. As a result, the Colorado Department of Agriculture's Industrial Hemp Program, and the state’s industrial hemp producers, will continue operations under current rules until September 30, 2021.

Broomfield, Colo. - Colorado’s industrial hemp plant and seed industry exports continue to grow exponentially, having expanded tenfold in the last year (see table below). As farmers begin spring planting, managing the quality of the seed and clones/transplants planned for export is paramount.
