Proto Taste from Denver Wins Governor’s Plate Food Truck Competition

Proto Taste won the coveted Golden Plate, selected by Governor Polis as the winner of the Governor’s Plate competition at the Colorado State Fair. Meanwhile, the voters selected Stoke Pizza to receive the 2024 People’s Choice Award.

The trucks competed with five other food trucks from Pueblo, Wheat Ridge, Arvada, and Denver to win the awards. The rules were simple: each dish had to include either Palisade peaches or San Luis Valley potatoes, as interpreted by the competing chefs. Submissions this year ranged from pizza to sliders to ice cream.

Stoke Pizza Wins Golden Plate Award at the 2023 Governor’s Plate Competition

From the six food trucks competing in the third annual Governor’s Plate competition at the Colorado State Fair, Stoke Pizza received the Golden Plate award for their wood-fired chorizo, elote, and green chile pizza. Papa Mario’s Grilled Cheese was chosen as the People’s Choice winner for a third year in a row for their Tiff Special roast beef sandwich. 

Governor Jared Polis sampled all dishes to award the Golden Plate and event attendees voted on their favorites during the event.

Inaugural Governor’s Plate Awarded at Colorado State Fair

Receiving the highest praise and the first-ever Governor’s Plate award, the Papa Mario’s Grilled Cheese Food Truck was crowned the winner at the Colorado State Fair’s inaugural Colorado-sourced food competition. The Governor’s Plate winner was the Panfili grilled cheese, prepared with ingredients from Colorado Proud producers, including Musso Farms and Springside Cheese.

“Governor’s Plate” Event to Feature Colorado Sourced Ingredients

To highlight Colorado’s diverse and unbeatable agricultural products and chefs, Governor Jared Polis has announced the inaugural “Governor’s Plate” competition to debut at the 2021 Colorado State Fair. The competitors will partner with Colorado Proud to select Colorado-grown ingredients, including the Pueblo chile, to incorporate in their dishes.
