Pesticide Applicator Inspections
CDA is responsible for regulating the use of pesticides in the state of Colorado under the Colorado Pesticide Applicators’ Act (PAA), § 35-10-101 through 128, C.R.S.
Any person who uses or supervises the use of any pesticide or device in Colorado is subject to the PAA (§ 35-10-104 C.R.S.).
Licensed Commercial, Registered Limited Commercial, and Registered Public Applicators
All licensed and registered applicators are subject to a Routine Office Inspection.
Routine office inspections conducted at your business location include, but are not limited to:
- a review of your licensing credentials for the pest categories you are conducting business in
- a review of your application records
- training records
- pesticide storage
- equipment.
Each new licensee should expect an inspection during their first year of business. On-going licensees are inspected on a rotating basis, but on acreage about every 3 years.
Licensed Private Applicators
Private applicators are subject to the following inspections:
- Worker Protection Standard inspection
- Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) inspection (verifies recordkeeping and lawful use of pesticides)
- Pesticide use inspection (verifies the lawful use of pesticides)
Field Inspections
CDA may also conduct a field inspection with any pesticide applicator. During these inspections, a CDA inspector will monitor a pesticide application, verify that all required PPE is being used, that all application equipment is in good working order and conduct a label review. This may be a scheduled or unannounced inspection.
