Feeder/Slaughter Beef Cattle

NOTE: If cattle are of a dairy breed or dairy breed cross they must meet the dairy breed requirements.

 

Steers and Spayed Heifers

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
  2. USDA Official Identification (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags)
    1. Not required for steers and spayed heifers UNLESS traveling for show or exhibition.
    2. Required for all steers and spayed heifers traveling for show or exhibition regardless of age.

 

Bulls, Cows, and Heifers

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
    2. Official Identification must be individually listed if required in paragraph 2.
  2. USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags)
    1. All cattle 18 months of age or older.
    2. All show or exhibition cattle regardless of age.
    3. Official Identification Exemptions:
      1. Cattle being imported into a Approved Tagging Site; or 
      2. Cattle shipped directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility and processed within three days of arrival.
  3. Negative Official Trichomonas foetus PCR Test (individual or pooled) required for beef bulls 12 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado: 
    1. A negative trichomoniasis test is valid for 60 days after collection if the bull is held separate from females.
    2. Bulls from a known trich positive herd are not permitted to enter Colorado regardless of test status.
    3. Bulls consigned to a livestock auction market must be tested within 60 days prior to the sale if being sold for breeding purposes 
      1. Bulls not tested prior to sale must:
        1. Be tested prior to release from the market;
        2. Be sold directly to slaughter; or 
        3. Be sold to an Approved Feedlot.
    4. Trichomonas foetus Test exemptions:
      1. Bulls used for exhibition (without sale) that have no sexual contact with females; 
      2. Bulls consigned directly to slaughter; or
      3. Bulls consigned to an Approved Feedlot.

 

M-branded Cattle

Note: Cattle imported directly from Mexico must meet the Mexico Origin Import Requirement.

Must meet the above requirements AND:

  1. Sexually intact cattle from Mexico may only be imported to an Approved Feedlot or directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
  2. Official Identification required 
    1. Official Mexico Identification ear-tag must be retained after entry into the United States.

M branded or Mexico origin cattle used in rodeo or exhibition must meet the  Rodeo Cattle from Mexico requirements.
