Breeding Beef Cattle from Mexico

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) (Health Certificate) issued by a SADER veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado. 
    1. Official Identification must be listed individually on the CVI.
  2. Permit required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or by using the Online Permitting System (OPS).
  3. Official Mexico ear tag required.
    1. All cattle imported from Mexico must be identified with both an official identification approved by SENASICA (i.e., yellow SINIIGA tag) and a blue metal (state) tag. 
  4. Permanent brand with an M:
    1. high on the right hip for steers and spayed heifers; or 
    2. On the right shoulder for sexually intact cattle. 
    3. The brand may be either a freeze brand or a hot brand.
  5. Sexually intact cattle from Mexico may ONLY be imported to an Approved Feedlot or directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
  6. Mexico origin cattle for rodeo must all meet Rodeo requirements
  7. USDA Requirements: cattle must meet USDA import requirements prior to import into the US, including Tuberculosis and Brucellosis test requirements.
