Landowners across five Colorado counties have voted for a unified future in natural resource protection. A special election held on February 3, 2026, has successfully consolidated the Platte Valley Conservation District, Southeast Weld Conservation District, and West Adams Conservation District into a single, powerful new entity: the Mountain View Conservation District.

This historic merger marks a commitment to a clearer, more efficient approach to conservation, uniting efforts to meet the natural resource conservation needs of landowners across Adams, Broomfield, Jefferson, Morgan, and Weld Counties.

“Consolidation of the districts creates a unified and clear role of conservation for our region,” said Dalton Crisman, President of the former West Adams Conservation District. “This merger will reduce confusion about which district residents belong to and which programs are offered. Economic benefits will include sharing staff, resources, and space. District consolidation will also help reduce redundancy, duplication of work, and improve efficiency of programming across the entire new district.”

Conservation districts are local, non-regulatory governments. They provide crucial technical expertise, financial assistance, and education to help landowners protect vital natural resources. The Colorado State Conservation Board will continue to provide the new district with funding, leadership, and training support to effectively serve as a local entity supporting Colorado’s producers and natural resources.

Next, supervisors from the original boards will form an “organization board,” tasked by state statute with identifying and appointing the Mountain View Conservation District’s first five-member board within the next six months.

The Mountain View Conservation District is one of 72 conservation districts statewide, which enhance the collective impact of those dedicated to stewarding today's land and water for a better tomorrow through a collaborative approach to conservation.

The Colorado State Conservation Board (CSCB), which is a part of the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA), plays a key role in the agency’s Strategic Plan. The CSCB’s mission to foster the conservation of Colorado’s natural resources, and its support of local Conservation Districts, directly aligns with the CDA’s Environmental Stewardship and Climate Resilience strategic direction. This work is essential to advancing water resiliency within Colorado agriculture and supporting the state's producers and communities.
