Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg was in Washington D.C. this week attending the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) conference to advocate for Colorado’s interests on the national level.
During the conference, Commissioner Greenberg met with state and federal leaders, agricultural business leaders, and emerging leaders from the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS). Together they discussed several topics of note to Colorado, including the response to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and spotted lantern fly, the reorganization of the FDA, the regulation of hemp products, international trade, Waters of the United States (WOTUS), western drought and water supply, soil health, farm and ranch resilience, climate change, and improving disaster response.
“Colorado agriculture has long been a leader on conservation and climate resilience, food safety, hemp, and supporting new and beginning farmers, and we continue to advocate for these issues and more on the national level,” said Commissioner Kate Greenberg. “The discussions during the NASDA conference were collaborative and informative, and I look forward to working with other NASDA members toward solutions that support agriculture across the nation during this Farm Bill year.”
In addition to the conference, Commissioner Greenberg met with the British Ambassador, Dame Karen Pierce, as well as U.K. Secretary of State for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, the Rt Honorable Thérèse Coffey MP to discuss advancing business opportunities for Colorado agriculture in the U.K. Board members also met with Agriculture Committee members in the U.S. House and Senate to discuss advancing 2023 Farm Bill priorities.
Commissioner Greenberg represents Colorado on the NASDA Board of Directors and is the 2023 Chair of the Western Association of State Departments of Agriculture (WASDA).
