Historic Investment in Agriculture, CDA Approved in 2024/25 State Budget

Today, Governor Polis signed the Long Bill, sponsored by the Joint Budget Committee, which commits significant investments into programs and staff supporting agriculture across Colorado.

The state budget for Fiscal Year 2024/2025 includes a 13 percent increase in funding to the Department of Agriculture, to build out and add support to existing programs that are working to improve the agricultural industry in our state. Funding included in the Long Bill will support farmer-driven conservation efforts, emergency preparedness, renewable energy adaptation, and more.

Two New Regional Assistant Commissioners to Join CDA

The Colorado Department of Agriculture has hired two new Regional Assistant Commissioners to help strengthen the agency’s connection to agricultural communities across the state. These positions were created last year and serve as a key resource to continue building and maintaining trusted relationships with rural communities and ag producers across the state.

CDA Hiring for Two Regional Assistant Commissioners

The Colorado Department of Agriculture announced a search to fill two new regionally based Regional Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture positions that will serve as a liaison between the Department and agricultural communities across Colorado. The two new positions are in addition to the two positions filled in 2023 when these positions were created.

Western Ag Leaders Gather In Denver for Policy, Educational Conference

This week, State Commissioners, Directors and Secretaries of Agriculture from Western states gathered in Denver for the annual Western Association of State Departments of Agriculture (WASDA) conference. Discussions included an opening youth panel, innovation in water resilience, public, private and philanthropic partnerships, and opportunities for producers using regenerative agriculture practices.
