Broomfield, Colo. - Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg provided the following statement in response to the killing of George Floyd last week in Minneapolis:
“The killing of George Floyd by police is a tragic and brutal loss of life. Sadly, his death and the deaths of countless others are not isolated events but a manifestation of the insidious power of institutionalized racism. All of us, including leaders in government and public servants, have a choice: We can either close our eyes to injustice, or commit ourselves to understanding how we advance equity and fairness,” said Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg.
“At the Colorado Department of Agriculture we must do all we can to be a driver of equity for people of color in food and farming and confront the history of institutionalized discrimination, and violence against people of color that continues to hold so many people back in our industry today. We must not remain silent. We are honored to serve our community and proud to advance the mission of the Department to strengthen and advance agriculture in Colorado. The work toward racial equity is integral to achieving that mission.”
