NOTE: If cattle are of a dairy breed or dairy breed cross they must meet the dairy breed requirements.
Steers and Spayed Heifers
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
- A statement written on the CVI stating: “These cattle do not originate from the MAZ.”
- USDA Official Identification (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags)
- Not required for steers and spayed heifers UNLESS traveling for show or exhibition.
- Required for all steers and spayed heifers traveling for show or exhibition regardless of age.
Bulls, Cows, and Heifers
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
- Official Identification must be individually listed if required in paragraph 2.
- A statement written on the CVI stating: “These cattle do not originate from the MAZ.”
- USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags)
- Cattle 18 months of age or older.
- All show or exhibition cattle regardless of age.
- Official Identification Exemption:
- Cattle being imported into an Approved Tagging Site.
- Cattle shipped directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility and processed within three days of arrival.
- Negative Official Trichomonas foetus PCR Test (individual or pooled) required for beef bulls 12 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado:
- A negative trichomoniasis test is valid for 60 days after collection if the bull is held separate from females.
- Bulls from a known trich positive herd are not permitted to enter Colorado regardless of test status.
- Bulls consigned to a livestock auction market must be tested within 60 days prior to the sale if being sold for breeding purposes
- Bulls not tested prior to sale must:
- Be tested prior to release from the market;
- Be sold directly to slaughter; or
- Be sold to an Approved Feedlot.
- Bulls not tested prior to sale must:
- Trichomonas foetus Test exemptions:
- Bulls used for exhibition (without sale) that have no sexual contact with females;
- Bulls consigned directly to slaughter; or
- Bulls consigned to an Approved Feedlot.
M-branded Cattle
Must meet the above requirements AND:
- Sexually intact cattle from Mexico may only be imported to an Approved Feedlot or directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
- Official Identification required
- Official Mexico Identification ear-tag must be retained after entry into the United States.
- M branded or Mexico origin cattle used in rodeo or exhibition must meet the Rodeo Cattle from Mexico requirements.
TB Modified Accredited Zone (MAZ)
Michigan Counties Affected: Montmorency, Alpena, Alcona, Oscoda.
Steers and Spayed Heifers
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- Official Identification does not need to be individually listed on the CVI for steers and spayed heifers, UNLESS they are used for rodeo or exhibition.
- A statement written on the CVI: “These cattle have met the export requirements to move out of the MAZ.”
- Permit required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or by using the Online Permitting System (OPS).
- USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags)
- Negative Tuberculosis Test required for steers and spayed heifers 6 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado and must originate from a TB accredited free herd.
- Accredited herd number and date of the last whole herd test must be indicated on the CVI.
- Exemption - no TB test is required if moving directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
