Small Animals

*Please note, the VS Form 7001 is NOT accepted as a CVI for interstate travel to Colorado.

Birds

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry. 
    1. Birds imported into PACFA-licensed facilities are required to have a CVI within 10 days prior to entry.
  2. All Psittacine birds to be sold or transferred to a new owner shall be banded with an approved bird band prior to entry. 
    1. Please contact the Pet Animal Care and Facilities Act (PACFA) program for further information regarding bird bands at 303-869-9146 or cda_pacfa@state.co.us.
  3. All game birds such as pheasant, chukar, etc, must meet poultry requirements.

Cats and Dogs

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days.
    1. Cats or dogs imported into PACFA-licensed facilities are required to have a CVI within 10 days prior to entry.
  2. Rabies vaccination: Cats and dogs over 3 months of age must have proof of an up-to-date rabies vaccination.
    1. The vaccination date, vaccine manufacturer, and serial number must be listed on the CVI.

 

NOTE: For Colorado-origin cats and dogs traveling to states that do not require a CVI and returning to Colorado:

  • If return to Colorado is within 30 days from departure, no CVI is required for return.
  • If return to Colorado is greater than 30 days from departure, then the above import requirements must be met.  

Ferrets

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry.
    1. Ferrets imported into PACFA-licensed facilities are required to have a CVI within 10 days prior to entry.
  2. Rabies vaccination: Ferrets over 3 months of age must have proof of an up-to-date rabies vaccination
    1. The vaccination date, vaccine manufacturer, and serial number must be listed on the CVI.

Rabbits

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry. 
    1. Rabbits imported into PACFA-licensed facilities are required to have a CVI within 10 days prior to entry.

Other Small Animals

NOTE: This includes other pocket pets, such as gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, amphibians, and reptiles.  This does not include exotic animals, which must meet the exotic animal entry requirements.

  1. Approval from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) may be required prior to entry depending on the species.  Please call CPW at (303) 297-1192 for requirements.
  2. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry.

Other small animals imported into PACFA-licensed facilities are required to have a CVI within 10 days prior to entry.
