Rodeo Cattle

HPAI UPDATE:

CDA Emergency Rule effective April 30, 2024

Lactating dairy cattle imported into Colorado must have a negative test for Influenza A within 7 days prior to movement. The lactation status and negative test results must by recorded on the CVI.

US Origin

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. Official Identification must be individually listed on the CVI.
  2. USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags (placed prior to 11/05/2024)).
  3. Negative Tuberculosis Test required for all rodeo cattle that are 6 months of age or older within 12 months prior to entry into Colorado. 
    1. Tuberculosis test date and results must be recorded on the CVI. 
  4. Rodeo cattle imported for breeding purposes must meet beef breeding requirements. 
  5. Rodeo cattle imported for feeding purposes must meet beef feeding requirements. 

Mexico Origin

Note: Cattle imported directly from Mexico must meet the Mexico Origin Import Requirement.

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado. 
    1. Official Identification must be individually listed for all rodeo cattle.
  2. Permit required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130.
  3. Official Identification required (both requirements must be met)
    1. Official Mexico Identification ear tag must be retained after entry into the United States; and
    2. Permanent brand with an M high on the right hip. The brand may be either a freeze brand or a hot brand.
  4. Negative Tuberculosis Tests required for all Mexico origin cattle that are 6 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado. 
    1. Tuberculosis testing date and results must be recorded on the CVI.
    2. A second negative Tuberculosis test is required 60-120 days after entry into Colorado for all Mexico origin rodeo/exhibition cattle that do not enter an Approved Feedlot.
      1. The second test results must be submitted to the Office of the State Veterinarian within 7 days of completion.
