Goats and Sheep - Canada

NOTE: This page applies to domestic sheep and goat breeds only. Exotic sheep and goats including but not limited to: mouflon, barbary sheep, tahr, chamois. Questions regarding these breeds or crosses can be directed to Colorado Parks and Wildlife at (303) 291-7227.

 

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by a CFIA-accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry.
    1. Official Identifications must be individually listed on the CVI. 
  2. Permit required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or using the Online Permitting System (OPS)
  3. Official Canadian ear tag that will allow the animals to be traced to the farm or premises of birth.
  4. C” Brand: either a “C” brand (not less than 1 inch high and can be applied to any haired area on the animal that can be readily observed.) or a “CΛN” tattoo applied to the inside of the left ear, or for animals with insufficient ear space to the tail web region.
  5. Negative Brucella ovis (B. Ovis) ELISA test required for rams 6 months and older within 30 days.
    1. The name of the laboratory, results, and date of test must be listed on the CVI.
  6. USDA Requirements: sheep and goats must meet USDA import requirements prior to import into the US.
