Feeder/Slaughter Water Buffalo- Non-controlled areas

Steers and Spayed Heifers

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
    2. Official Identification does not need to be individually listed on the CVI for steers and spayed heifers, UNLESS they are used for rodeo or exhibition.
    3. If water buffalo are from Wyoming, Idaho, or Montana outside the DSA: A statement written on the CVI stating: “These Water Buffalo do not originate from the DSA.”
    4. If water buffalo are from Michigan outside of the MAZ: A statement written on the CVI stating: “These water buffalo do not originate from the MAZ.”
  2. USDA Official Identification (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags)
    1. Not required for steers and spayed heifers UNLESS traveling for show or exhibition.
    2. Required for all steers and spayed heifers traveling for show or exhibition regardless of age.

Bulls, Cows, and Heifers

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
    2. Official Identification must be individually listed on the CVI.

Steers and Spayed Heifers

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. Official Identification does not need to be individually listed on the CVI for steers and spayed heifers, UNLESS they are used for rodeo or exhibition.
    2. A statement written on the CVI: “These water buffalo have met the export requirements to move out of the DSA.”
  2. Permit is required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or by using the Online Permitting System (OPS).
  3. USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags).

  3. USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags).
  4. Water buffalo must meet the state of origin’s DSA export requirements.  
    1. A negative brucellosis test required within 30 days prior to movement for sexually intact water buffalo 12 months of age and older.  
      1. The name of the laboratory and date of test must be listed on the CVI.

Feeder/Slaughter Water Buffalo- Michigan TB Modified Accredited Zone (MAZ)

TB Modified Accredited Zone (MAZ)

Michigan Counties Affected: Montmorency, Alpena, Alcona, Oscoda.

Steers and Spayed Heifers

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
    1. Official Identification does not need to be individually listed on the CVI for steers and spayed heifers, UNLESS they are used for rodeo or exhibition.
  2. Permit required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or by using the Online Permitting System (OPS).
  3. USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags) 
  4. Negative Tuberculosis Test required for steers and spayed heifers 6 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado and must originate from a TB accredited free herd.
    1. Accredited herd number and date of the last whole herd test must be indicated on the CVI. 
    2. Exemption - no TB test is required if moving directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
