Donkeys, Horses and Mules

Equine import requirements for the State of Colorado have not changed; however, you may need to check with the specific event/exhibition/rodeo/stable that you are intending to visit as they may have changed their particular requirements.

The EECVI (Extended Equine Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, also known as Equine Passport) is not currently accepted in Colorado.

*Please note, a physical address needs to include (if a street address is not available) one of the following: GPS coordinates, intersection, trailhead name, campground name, or game management unit.  A general national forest name is not specific enough.

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry with all official ID listed. In the address fields please include both the physical address of the horse in your state along with the physical address of the location the horse will be in Colorado.
  2. Negative EIA Test required within 12 months prior to entry. The date of the test, the results, the lab and the accession number shall be listed on the CVI. Blood samples for EIA testing shall be collected by an accredited veterinarian. Foals under 6 months and accompanied by their EIA-negative dam do not need an EIA test. If the dam does not accompany the foal, then the foal shall test negative to EIA prior to entry into Colorado.
