Domestic Sheep

NOTE: This page applies to domestic sheep breeds only. This page does NOT apply to exotic sheep and goats (including but not limited to: mouflon, barbary sheep, tahr, and chamois).  For questions regarding the import of exotic breeds or crosses, please contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife at (720) 660-1001.

 

  1. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry. 
    1. CVI exemption: 
      1. Owner-hauler statement: sheep shipped directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market, federally approved terminal feedlot, or shipped directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility may move on an owner-hauler statement.
    2. Official Identification must be individually listed on the CVI if required in paragraph 2. 
  2. USDA Official Identification (Scrapie ear tag, 840 RFID tag, or legible tattoo accompanied by registration papers.)
    1. All sexually intact sheep of any age. 
    2. Wethers over 18 months of age.
    3. Identification Exemption:
      1. Feeder lambs under 18 months of age shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter plant or to a federally approved terminal feedlot.
  3. Negative Brucella ovis (B. Ovis) ELISA test required for Rams 6 months and older within 30 days.
    1. The name of the laboratory, results, and date of test must be listed on the CVI.
    2. Exemption:
      1. Rams from a B. ovis free flock with the certificate number and date of last test listed on the CVI.
