Once a decade, give or take a few years, Colorado has the opportunity to host the annual Western Association of State Departments of Agriculture (WASDA) conference.

Held in Denver this year, WASDA 2023 offered the opportunity to try something a little different as the Colorado Department of Agriculture works towards our long term departmental goal of supporting the next generation of agriculture. 

New NextGen Scholarship To Fund Youth Leader Attendance at Western Ag Conference

The Colorado Department of Agriculture is introducing a new leadership opportunity for young leaders interested in agriculture and natural resources in the West. In partnership with the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) and Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS), CDA is launching the inaugural 2023 WASDA NextGen Scholarship Fund. Scholarship recipients will travel to Denver, attend the annual Western Association of State Departments of Agriculture (WASDA) conference. 

NextGen Grant Program Funding Ag Leadership Opportunities Accepting Applications

The NextGen Leadership Grant Program, which supports the next generation in agriculture through scholarships, career development, and other leadership training opportunities, is now taking applications from agricultural organizations and educational institutions that support developmental and training opportunities for people going into the broad and diverse food and agricultural industry. The competitive grants will fund up to $25,000 per project with $120,000 in total funding available.

Scholarships, Equipment, Policy Training Among Projects Funded Through CDA’s New NextGen Leadership Program Grants

The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) is committed to expanding access to learning and leadership opportunities for future generations in agriculture. In the fall of 2022, CDA announced the brand new NextGen Ag Leadership Program offering small grants to organizations advancing youth education and leadership in agriculture.  Through that new program, CDA awarded $186,820 to 13 organizations across the state as part of the NextGen Ag Leadership Program. 

40 Young Leaders Sponsored by CDA to Attend Youth Summit Track at Colorado Food Summit

The Colorado Department of Agriculture has sponsored 40 young people to be part of the Youth Summit at tomorrow’s Colorado Food Summit, so they can learn how Colorado agriculture and food systems work together. Through CDA’s strategic focus on supporting future generations in ag, the Department sponsored the registration fees and attendance costs for young people from across Colorado to attend the Food Summit.
