Bulls, Cows, and Heifers
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
- Official Identification must be individually listed for on the CVI.
- If water buffalo are from Wyoming, Idaho, or Montana outside the DSA: A statement written on the CVI stating: “These Water Buffalo do not originate from the DSA.”
- If water buffalo are from Michigan outside of the MAZ: A statement written on the CVI stating: “These cattle do not originate from the MAZ.”
- USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags.)
- All water buffalo 18 months of age or older.
- All show or exhibition water buffalo regardless of age.
- A Negative Tuberculosis Test required for water buffalo 6 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- TB test exemption:
- Consigned to an approved livestock market:
- Must be tested prior to release;
- Sold directly to slaughter; or
- Sold to an Approved feedlot
- Consigned directly to slaughter.
- Consigned to an Approved Feedlot.

Breeding Water Buffalo - Designated Surveillance Area (DSA)
Bulls, Cows, and Heifers
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- UNLESS shipping directly from the ranch of origin to an approved livestock market or shipping directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
- Official Identification must be individually listed on the CVI.
- A statement written on the CVI: “These water buffalo have met the export requirements to move out of the DSA.”
- Permit is required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or by using the Online Permitting System (OPS).
- USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags, Silver “brite” tags, or orange Brucellosis (OCV) ear tags)
- A Negative Tuberculosis Test required for water buffalo 6 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado.
- Tubeculosis test exemption:
- Consigned to an approved livestock market:
- Must be tested prior to release;
- Sold directly to slaughter; or
- Sold to an Approved feedlot

- A negative brucellosis test required within 30 days prior to movement for water buffalo 12 months of age and older.

Michigan Counties Affected: Montmorency, Alpena, Alcona, Oscoda.

- Official Identification must be individually listed on the CVI.
- A statement written on the CVI: “These water buffalo have met the export requirements to move out of the MAZ.”
- Permit required prior to entry by calling (303) 869-9130 or by using the Online Permitting System (OPS).
- USDA Official Identification required (840 RFID tags)
- Negative Tuberculosis Test required for water buffalo 6 months of age or older within 60 days prior to entry into Colorado and must originate from a TB accredited free herd.
- Accredited herd number and date of the last whole herd test must be indicated on the CVI.
- Exemption - no TB test is required if moving directly to a federally inspected slaughter facility.
