Information About Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is caused by a single celled flagellated protozoan parasite that is known to be a pathogen of the bovine reproductive tract as well as the intestinal tract of cats. It causes infertility, and, at times, has caused spontaneous abortions in the first trimester.

- Bulls that are determined to be an official T. fetus PCR test negative by an official test shall be identified with an official Colorado negative T. fetus tag appropriate for the year in which the bull is tested.
- The accredited veterinarian shall record the bull’s official identification device on the T. fetus test submission form or apply an official identification device to any bull that does not have one and record it on the T. fetus test submission form.
- All laboratory samples submitted for official tests for reportable diseases shall be accompanied by a properly completed form or electronic form approved by the State Veterinarian. Part 12.3 of the Colorado Livestock Disease Control Rule identifies what information must be provided on submission forms.

If Trich samples are not received at the laboratory within 144 hours, the sample can't be used for an official test. Several diagnostic laboratories across the state offer Trich testing. Samples must be taken by an accredited veterinarian and results will be available between four to six days.
