Digital technology continues to develop and helps us with multiple aspects of our daily lives. More options are available than ever before to help veterinarians with increased accuracy and increased convenience.
Automatic submission to the State Veterinarian's office is one of the benefits of using an electronic Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). It uses technology you already have, such as your computer, tablet, or smartphone, and eliminates the need to mail CVIs to our office.
Below are some of the options that are available to accredited veterinarians in Colorado. There are options for any situation, with or without internet access.
Why should I use electronic CVIs?
Electronic CVIs are faster to fill out after a short learning period and take away mistakes made from handwriting.
Many states are starting to waive permit numbers for certain species if you are using auto submitted electronic CVIs (please contact the destination state to confirm). All four options listed below automatically submit CVIs to the Colorado State Veterinarian’s office and the animal health official in the destination state.
Electronic CVIs are more cost-effective to get to our office as you don't need to send a copy through the Postal Service or pay for the paper books of CVI. They reduce compliance errors as it is impossible to submit a partially filled out CVI through these options. They are also able to add any number of animals in groups or with individual IDs so that you won't need to write multiple CVI for a single animal movement.

VET-CVI
Funded, in part, by the Colorado Department of Agriculture Animal Health Division, the VET-CVI is an electronic health certificate program offered in both mobile and desktop applications.
- Free electronic CVI platform available for all Colorado Veterinarians
- It is approved for submitting certificates of veterinary inspection (CVIs) to all U.S. states.
- Connect an existing email address book for auto-fill options.
- There is a clone option for quick submissions.
- Once completed, it has immediate submission to state animal health officials.
- CVIs may be easily shared with clients.
- Large and small animal movements.
- Brucellosis Vaccination and Tuberculosis Test modules.

Veterinary Services Process Streamlining
Veterinary Services Process Streamlining (VSPS) is a free, web-based CVI option developed and administered by USDA/APHIS for the movement of livestock (not available for small animals).
- Approved for use in all U.S. States
- Requires Level 2 eAuthentication with USDA. eAuthentication is a registration process that enables users to securely access USDA Web applications and services via the Internet
- Also offers an online EIA (Coggins) submission form
