BAP Annual Conference

Photo by Arnold Tyson.The second annual Bureau of Animal Protection (BAP) conference is designed to provide training for law enforcement, veterinarians, current BAP agents, and individuals working for municipalities, law enforcement, and non profit organizations interested in becoming BAP agents. 

The conference will include a keynote address, presentations on new animal protection initiatives in Colorado, and hands-on training from the Colorado Department of Agriculture and the Colorado Humane Society.

Topics covered will include:

  • Crime Scene Photography
  • Dangerous dog investigations 
  • Human-animal bond 
  • Coordinating with BAP and case studies of civil cases
  • Hands on equine training 
  • Search and Seizure
  • Colorado Revised Statutes § 35-42-108

For existing BAP agents, the conference will fulfill 17 hours of the 32 hours of continued education and training that must be completed every two years. Attending the whole conference will fulfill 17 hours towards the 40 hours of training required (as well as all the required training provided by the CDA) for a new BAP agent application.

There will be 2 hours of veterinary-specific training on recognizing and reporting animal mistreatment and serving as an expert witness.  Up to 16 hours of education provided at the BAP Conference may be used for Colorado veterinary license renewal as non-biomedical topics.
